Rules

The Michelle Fenn Memorial Softball Tournaments follow American Softball Association rules with some modifications.
2022 tournament Rules
Team Members: All teams are CO-ED and will consist of 9-13 players (maximum) per team. We ask that each team be at least 30% female. We welcome youth to come out and play; we ask that no more than 30% of each team be youth players (14 and under).
Tournament Brackets: Single-Game Elimination tournament. If you win, you continue to play. If for some reason, a winning team from a round chooses not to continue, the losing teams with the highest runs from that round will then move on.
Game Day Check-In: Team Check-In will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 at Spranger Field (next to the Hartland Fire Station 61), 3205 Hartland Rd., Hartland, MI 48353
Tournament Opening Ceremony: The Tournament Opening Ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025. Bracket placements will be drawn at this time. Depending on the number of teams, some teams may play their first game at a field approximately two miles from Spranger Field.
Game Times: Games will begin at 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Game Length: Games will end after the inning being played at 1 hour 15 minutes (or six innings maximum).
Homerun Rule: One over-the-fence homerun per player per game. Any over-the-fence homerun after the first will be a single and all runners will advance one base. The ball will stay in play.
Strikes: Swinging strikes only count. A batter will be given 6 pitches maximum. Pitches that will not count in those 6 are: pitches that go behind the batter, pitches that hit the dirt before making it to the plate, pitches that hit the batter, or pitches that are way outside or way over a batters head.
Innings: An inning will consist of 3 outs or when a team goes through their batting line up one time. If one team has 11 players and the opposing team has 10 players, that team with ten players will have their first batter bat a second time during the inning. This way each team will have the opportunity for the same number of batters to bat each inning. The team with 10 players will start the next inning with their second batter and continue through the line-up.
Fielding: Each team will be allowed to have the same number of players on the field at all times. If one team is playing with 3 outfielders, both teams must play with 3 outfielders. This will be determined at the start of the game. A player is a player whether it is a kid or an adult.
Players: All players will be listed in the batting order and bat as their turn comes up. If a player leaves a game he/she may not return. There will be no substitutions after the game has started unless it is due to an injury (the injured player will not be allowed to re-enter the game in progress).
